Scott Watkins, Stockton Symphony CEO

Scott Watkins moved to Stockton from Bowling Green, Kentucky where he was the Executive Director of Orchestra Kentucky. While there he helped to transform the orchestra and influence community lives through inspirational programming and fundraising efforts.

Through the encouragement of friends and professionals, Watkins started his orchestra management career at the Dallas Symphony and thereafter served in leadership positions at Symphony Arlington, Corpus Christi Symphony, Las Colinas Symphony, the South Arkansas Symphony (awarded the key to the city of El Dorado by the Mayor based on achievements), and most recently Orchestra Kentucky, Orchestra Indiana, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Symphony.

He’s studied Clarinet Music Performance receiving a Master’s degree from University of North Texas with a minor in conducting and a Bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University.  He also received a Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in Education Administration and Supervision. Watkins has been awarded the Priddy Fellowship in Arts Leadership and was a finalist for the League of American Symphony Orchestra’s Fellowship Program.

In his free time, he enjoys keeping up his clarinet performance skills, cycling and hiking, reading books, cooking, and spending valuable time with his family.
He is married to Karen Watkins, who is a talented vocalist/pianist and teaches music at Richardsville and North Warren Elementary schools. She holds her bachelor’s degree in music education from Arizona State University along with numerous singing credits to her name. They have five adult children who are also involved in music, two cats, and a dog.
